There’s a famous age-old phrase used in everyday Indian life. It’s called ‘Chalta hai’, meaning ‘it works’, that nudges us to settle for anything that’s good enough.
In the world of garment production, nothing embodies this notion as much as the concept of AQL (Acceptable Quality Level). It’s essentially a sampling method that is used to determine if garments have met the minimum required standard set during production.
At Andamen, we define our own AQL. The Andamen Quality Level. Through months of conceptualising, sampling and crafting, our commitment to industry leading quality drives us to bring you nothing less than a great product, that’s built to last.
At Andamen, good enough ‘nahi chalta hai’.
Every inch of an Andamen product tells a story—a story of our uncompromising passion for precision.
It’s evident in how our fabrics feel on your skin, the way our collars hug your neck and how impeccable our stitching looks & feels at the seams.
We choose materials that last, are good for the planet and, above all, make you look & feel great all day. From European Linen to Indian Cotton, our lineup includes all your wardrobe stapes and each material is meticulously crafted into rich, resilient fabrics that cover all your wardrobe —and style—needs.
Our fabrics undergo rigorous tests at multiple stages of the production cycle to ensure that they do not shrink, pill, bleed colour or fray at the edges.
All Andamen garments are designed to maximize their wear. That means the our garments need to stand the test of time and need to be designed for years to come. One of the ways we do this is by adding an extra layer of fabric to our plackets, cuffs and collars to give them strength. This is called fusing, which brings structure to our garments and makes you look a whole lot smarter and sharper.
Strength lies in great finishing. We ensure that the surface of our shirts are always smooth and contain no air bubbles—straight from the box and even after multiple washes. One of the ways we ensure this is through a durability test where our shirts are fused at 150 degrees for 5 seconds and are then washed 5 times to ascertain its quality.
For us, buttons aren’t just functional. They’re also playful. Depending on our design needs, we spend a lot of time experimenting with an array of buttons—made with wood, coconut shell, metal and recycled polyester. Each button is has a story to tell and is carefully chosen to perfectly complement the garment. It’s this obsession over the tiniest of details that add up to truly elevate your overall style.
All our buttons are tested for strength and longevity. We also work with one of the leading button suppliers in the country that’s OEKO-TEX® certified. This means that no carcinogenic chemicals or dyes are used in the making of our buttons, which helps to keep you as well as our workers safe and healthy.
How do you know if a shirt is well-stitched? For starters, every stitch should be perfectly straight, feel smooth on the surface and seem almost invisible to the eye. Our garments tick all of these boxes, and some more.
For stitching, we work with threads made from recycled plastic bottles. These are at par with virgin threads in their quality, and help us reduce the amount of plastic that goes into landfills. In tune with our planet-friendly ethos, our processing units also reuse 98% of all the water they consume.
We’re often asked what makes our product different? It’s not the materials we use or the way we stitch or the buttons we choose. It’s all of that and more. It’s everything that goes into a garment from the beginning to the way it’s finished. Premium dyes, superior machines, expert craftsmanship, ethical practices, a clean, dust-free environment & a whole lot more. Every element contributes to our garments being the way they are—sophisticated, refined & durable.
Every product we make crosses at least 27 external and internal checkpoints before it lands at your doorstep.
